Writing

Almost everything I publish goes out through LearnButWhy, either as long guides or in the monthly newsletter. The Why is where the shorter, more personal pieces land — you can subscribe there.

An argument in four parts

These were written separately but they build on each other. Read in order, they lay out why I think school needs redesigning rather than reforming, and what I would build on instead.

What I’m working on next

Two things, both slower than the guides.

The first is a set of essays on adaptive capacity — what it is, and what conditions grow it. It draws on movement practice, on Feldenkrais, and on the idea that what we can respond to depends on what we can perceive as available. I want three of them written before I decide where they live.

The second is a project of illustrated speculative fragments, published under my own name rather than LearnButWhy’s. Short pieces about futures I find plausible and unsettling. Same rule: a few good ones before any of it goes anywhere.

When they exist, they will be here.
